POSITION: Finance Controller

DEPARTMENT: SIL Aviation Department

RESPONSIBLE TO: Business Development Manager

PURPOSE: To assist in the handling of all financial matters relating to the Aviation Department

Duty Hours: Regular hours begin from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with one hour off for lunch. Work overtime as required.


  • Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Fuel used tracking and Revenue Recognition
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting to CASA PNG, PNG DOT and JAARS
  • Research technical accounting issues for compliance
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial statements
  • Ensure quality control over financial transaction processing and financial reporting
  • Manage and comply with PNG Government, SIL PNG and SIL International reporting requirements
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Monitor and confirm financial condition by conducting audits; providing information to external auditors
  • Review and develop efficient work flows for financial activities
  • Track SIL Aviation’s international projects’ finances and prepare financial reports
  • Update the Aviation Finance Manual as necessary
  • Conduct monthly review and analysis of ledger reports and operating statements. Includes submission of adjusting journal entries to SIL Finance office and advising the Director of Aviation of significant variations from budget
  • Additional controller duties as assigned by the Business Development Manager
  • Holder of an Aviation Key


  • Proven working experience as a financial controller
  • 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience
  • Degree in Accounting
  • CPA or CMA preferred
  • Communicate financial business in English
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and procedures
  • Experience with creating financial statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end & year-end close process
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
