About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Purpose
Our Lihir operation is seeking a dynamic and experienced Advisor, Electrical to join our Power & Utilities team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of supporting the maintenance and optimisation of electrical systems across our mining operations. You will ensure safe and efficient power distribution, troubleshoot issues with skill and precision, and implement preventative maintenance strategies that maximise equipment uptime. About the Role:
- Adhere to safety protocols and actively participate in safety briefings.
- Conduct routine electrical inspections to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards, documenting deficiencies for corrective action.
- Coordinate weekly planning with cross-functional teams to schedule electrical maintenance and align resources for the timely execution of work orders.
- Engage with external vendors to manage service schedules and procure materials by operational needs.
- Diagnose and resolve minor electrical faults on-site to minimise equipment downtime.
- Maintain compliance with electrical safety standards and company policies across all work areas.
- Document all maintenance activities, including inspections and repairs, to keep comprehensive records.
- Assist in managing the electrical spare parts inventory to ensure critical components are available.
- Monitor asset conditions regularly and report any wear or performance issues to the Supervisor of Maintenance.
- Keep equipment logs up to date for visibility into asset conditions and maintenance needs.
- Support the calibration and testing of electrical equipment to meet operational standards.
- Report equipment faults and recommend corrective actions during inspections.
- Provide coaching and support to the workforce to promote technical skill development and a strong safety culture.
About You:
- Proven experience in electrical maintenance within a mining or heavy industrial environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute high-voltage switching programs, including isolation, earthing, and verification procedures in line with safety regulations and company standards.
- Strong understanding of risk mitigation strategies during high-voltage maintenance activities.
- Relevant trade qualifications, certifications, or a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical safety standards and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a diverse team environment.
Working Conditions

- Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment
- Must provide a valid Police Clearance issued within the last six months
