POSITION TITLE: DAILY WORKER COOK

CONTEXT

Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) is a private, non-profit international humanitarian organization, founded in 1971 and working in 70 countries around the world. MSF provides medical assistance to populations in crisis, regardless of race, religion, belief or political affiliation. In PNG, MSF has been working since 2007 in Lae, Taric, Bougainville, Gulf Province and NCD Province. MSF is now working to support the Department of Health to improve access to care for patients in Lae, Jiwaka and Highlands.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Prepare meals for MSF staff, according to hygiene standards and security rules, in order to ensure their nutritional needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carry out the preparation of meals for staff
  • Always follow all hygiene standards and security rules.
  • Control food stock, ask for anything needed on time and prepare shopping list and make purchases if required.
  • Ensure meals to be served on time.
  • If applicable set table before every meal and clean it up after each meal.
  • Ensure cleanliness of all facilities, utensils and equipment.
  • If domestic cook, ensure the provision of drinkable water during the day and when she / he leaves cleaning, filling the filter and empty bottles, changing batteries if necessary.
  • Request and look after all kitchen equipment provided.
  • Keep an inventory of MSF kitchen utensils and equipment, i.e. plates, glasses, cutlery, cookware, etc., and ensure its integrity.
  • Report all important information (lost, robbery, damages, deterioration, incident, etc.).to superior.
  • Dispose spoiled foods in the fridges and store. inform the line manager
  • Control food stock, prepare shopping list and make purchases if required.
  • Ensure cleanliness in the kitchen is of high standard to avoid staff getting sick.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Education

  • Course in cooking is desirable

Experience

  • 2 years experience as a chef in hotel or other NGO is desirable

Languages

  • Basic English and Tok Pisin.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Fixed term Contract
  • Based in Morobe
  • Candidates must be flexible with working hours and location
