The Workshop Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing and repairing construction equipment systems, conducting maintenance on various equipment, training and supervising local mechanics, and ensuring a clean and safe working environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct regular inspections and diagnostic tests on heavy equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues.
Perform repairs and maintenance tasks on heavy equipment, including engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with heavy equipment using appropriate tools and equipment.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures while working on heavy equipment.
Maintain accurate records of all repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used.
Collaborate with other mechanics and technicians to discuss complex repairs and seek guidance when necessary.
Order and manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment required for repairs and maintenance.
Provide guidance and support to junior mechanics or apprentices as needed.
Keep up-to-date with advancements in heavy equipment technology and repair techniques through continuous learning and training.
Follow all company policies, procedures, and guidelines related to work performance, safety, and ethics.
Job Requirements
Minimum of 3 years' experience as a mechanic in the construction equipment industry.
Strong knowledge of equipment systems, including engines, transmissions, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, hydraulic, etc.
Ability to diagnose and repair equipment efficiently and effectively.
Experience conducting Corrective and Preventive maintenance of construction equipment.
Ability to train and supervise local mechanics on the repair of equipment.
Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
Grade 10 and 12 or equivalent required; trade certification preferred.
