Summary

The Workshop Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing and repairing construction equipment systems, conducting maintenance on various equipment, training and supervising local mechanics, and ensuring a clean and safe working environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections and diagnostic tests on heavy equipment to identify mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic issues.
  • Perform repairs and maintenance tasks on heavy equipment, including engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with heavy equipment using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures while working on heavy equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of all repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used.
  • Collaborate with other mechanics and technicians to discuss complex repairs and seek guidance when necessary.
  • Order and manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment required for repairs and maintenance.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior mechanics or apprentices as needed.
  • Keep up-to-date with advancements in heavy equipment technology and repair techniques through continuous learning and training.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and guidelines related to work performance, safety, and ethics.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a mechanic in the construction equipment industry.
  • Strong knowledge of equipment systems, including engines, transmissions, electrical, steering, suspension, braking, hydraulic, etc.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair equipment efficiently and effectively.
  • Experience conducting Corrective and Preventive maintenance of construction equipment.
  • Ability to train and supervise local mechanics on the repair of equipment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Grade 10 and 12 or equivalent required; trade certification preferred.
