We are currently seeking a dynamic and experienced Occupational Health & Safety Officer to join our Human Capital Team to ensure health and safety in the work environment.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Team Leader – Training & Development, the Occupational Health & Safety Officer ensures a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace. The role involves developing and implementing safety procedures, conducting risk assessments, leading safety training, investigating incidents, and supporting a strong safety culture.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and update OHS policies and procedures.
- Communicate safety requirements and ensure compliance across the organisation.
- Conduct safety audits and risk assessments to identify hazards.
- Implement corrective actions to reduce risks.
- Investigate incidents and maintain accurate records.
- Deliver safety training, inductions, and refresher sessions.
- Ensure compliance with OHS legislation and industry standards.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies during audits and inspections.
- Develop and test emergency response and evacuation plans.
- Coordinate emergency drills and response teams.
- Support health and wellness programs, ergonomic assessments, and awareness activities.
- Maintain inventory of safety equipment and Personal Protective Equipment.
- Analyse safety data and identify improvement strategies and opportunities.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in HR, Business, Environment, Science, or related field.
- OHS certification is an advantage.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in OHS or a related safety role.
- Strong knowledge of OHS laws, including PNG Labour Laws and the Employment Act.
- Experience in safety audits, incident reporting, and risk assessments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and training abilities.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions.
- High attention to detail and commitment to safety.
