Islands Petroleum is an independently owned fuel and lubes distributor, and the exclusive distributor for Mobil Lubricants in Papua New Guinea. Islands Petroleum operates bulk fuel and lubricant Depots and Distribution Centres in the Islands, Momase, Southern, and the Highlands regions. Our national head office is based in Kokopo.
We are currently seeking to hire an experienced Safety Advisor to be based in Rabaul Office to oversee our safety operations within the New Guinea Islands region.
The Role & Responsibilities
Reporting to the OHSE & Training Coordinator, the Safety Advisor is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing OHSE policies, procedures, programs & mapping out training plans and delivering trainings. Other responsibilities include:
- Plan & implement OHSE policies, procedures & programs.
- Support implementation of the company’s Operations Integrated Management System.
- Prepare and present reports on safety, trainings, accidents, and violations and determine root causes.
- Collaborate with Managers to monitor compliance and to identify safety & training issues.
- Liaise with and report to PNG official regulatory bodies on OHSE & Training matters.
- Oversees and directs the entire process of accident investigation/analysis.
- Conduct organization-wide training needs assessment and identify skill or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed.
- Map out, design and develop annual training programs and select appropriate training methods.
- Manage and maintain inhouse training facilities and equipment’s.
- Promotes occupational health and safety standards and programs targeting zero environmental damage, work-related injuries, and illnesses. Establishes a culture of safety awareness underpinned by an understanding of the principles of duty of care throughout the company’s workforce.
- Review incident trends and establish strategic plans for prevention of incidents.
Candidate Requirements
The person we seek must have the following:
- Tertiary qualification in Occupational/Environment Health & Safety.
- 3 - 5 years hands-on experience in HSE advisory or similar role.
- In-depth knowledge of best HSE practices & compliances.
- Certificate IV in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Must have an in-depth knowledge of OHSE guidelines, their implementation, training programs and practices.
- Industry experience through multiple functions and project assignments in engineering, procurement, construction, project management and controlled activities.
- Knowledge of industry standards and related work processes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be a listener, a presenter, and a people-person.
- Excellent planning, time management and organizational skills.
