Senior Lecturer in Information Technology or Systems
The Senior Lecturer will play a pivotal role in the delivery and continuous development of the Bachelor of Business in Information Technology (BBIT) program at PNG Unitech. This program will assist bridge the gap between business strategy and technological innovation, equipping graduates with the skills needed to lead digital transformation in PNG and beyond.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be expected to bring both academic and practical insights into the classroom, ensuring students gain a well-rounded education that is current, industry-relevant, and aligned with global best practices.
As a senior academic, you will:
- Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, and tutorials across a range of BBIT subjects.
- Drive curriculum innovation, ensuring course content reflects emerging technologies and market needs.
- Supervise final-year student research and projects, ensuring academic rigour and relevance.
- Engage in independent and collaborative research, contributing to the department’s research outputs.
- Mentor and support junior academic staff and contribute to staff development initiatives.
- Play a leadership role in departmental meetings, accreditation reviews, and strategic planning activities.
- Build partnerships with industry, government, and the community to support student employability and research impact.
As a Senior Lecturer, you will play a key role in preparing graduates to thrive in the evolving digital technology and economy, combining the power of information technology with core business principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses in Information Systems and IT, such as Software Engineering, E-Commerce, Cloud Computing, IS Security, Business Intelligence & Analytics, programming languages (C, python and Java) and others.
- Lead curriculum design and development to align with industry needs and emerging technologies.
- Supervise undergraduate research and capstone projects.
- Conduct impactful research and contribute to academic publications.
- Provide academic leadership, mentoring junior staff and contributing to departmental planning and quality assurance.
- Engage with local industries, government agencies, and international partners to enhance the relevance and impact of the BBIT program.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- A PhD in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching and learning.
- A strong research track record with publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Experience in curriculum development and academic leadership.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong expertise in Business and IT, including areas such as information systems, digital transformation, and IT in general.
- Proven teaching experience at the tertiary level with effective curriculum development skills.
- Strong programming skills in C, Python and Java
- Solid research background with publications in reputable journals.
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities within an academic setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to student success.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment and adapt to local contexts.
- Familiarity with educational technologies and blended learning tools.
Condition of Service:
Senior Lecturer: PGK66,060 – PGK80,740 per annum
Citizen: Domestic Market Allowance (DMA) K22,683 – K40,1999 per annum
Non-Citizen: International Market Allowance (IMA) K88,058 – K107,158 per annum
(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
