Important Requirement
Applicants must have extensive hands-on experience with container handling equipment, including reach stackers, heavy forklifts, hydraulic systems, electrical control systems, and related port handling machinery.
Applicants who do not have direct experience with container handling equipment, reach stackers, hydraulic systems, and electrical control systems need not apply.

The Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled, experienced, and safety-focused Service Mechanic Technician / Supervisor to join our Lae-based service team.
This is a hands-on technical and supervisory role suited to a qualified tradesperson with strong experience in port handling equipment, reach stackers, large forklifts, heavy vehicles, hydraulic systems, electrical control systems, and mobile plant maintenance.
The successful applicant must be capable of leading a small team, attending field service breakdowns, carrying out accurate diagnostics, and ensuring high-quality repair and maintenance work is completed safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Carrying out preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and breakdown support on reach stackers, container handling equipment, forklifts, trucks, generators, and other mobile plant.
- Diagnosing and repairing diesel, petrol, and LPG engines, including Cummins and other OEM equipment.
- Troubleshooting hydraulic, pneumatic, CAN bus, electrical, and electronic control systems.
- Carrying out diagnostics using OEM diagnostic software, service tools, and maintenance management systems.
- Supervising and coordinating workshop repairs and field service activities.
- Leading, mentoring, and training a small team of mechanics and technicians.
- Developing and managing maintenance schedules to ensure repairs and services are completed on time.
- Installing, commissioning, and maintaining single-phase and three-phase power generation systems.
- Ensuring all work is completed to a high standard of safety, quality, and professionalism.
- Completing risk assessments, job safety analysis, service reports, and related documentation.
- Supporting after-hours breakdowns and on-call service requirements when required.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants must have:
- A recognised Trade Certificate in Heavy Vehicle, Plant, Diesel Fitting, Motor Mechanics, or equivalent.
- Extensive proven experience with container handling equipment and reach stackers.
- Strong experience with large forklifts, 30T+ forklifts, heavy vehicles, mobile plant, and generators.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, automotive electrical systems, and electronic control systems.
- Experience using diagnostic software, OEM service tools, and modern workshop practices.
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
- A strong commitment to workplace safety, quality control, and professional workmanship.
- The ability to work independently in the field and as part of a team.
- Willingness to support after-hours and urgent breakdown work when required.
