Communications Officer (Internal Communications & Media)

The Organisation:

Pacific Adventist University (PAU) is owned and operated by the South Pacific Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The institution is accredited to the Adventist Accreditation Association, an international denominational authority for all tertiary and graduate educational programs and institutions owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church entities. The main campus is located on the pristine Koiari Park, 14 miles outside Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. The institution was established in 1984. Since then, it has grown from a college of 20 students, to a university of over 1000 students from across the Pacific.

The Role:

We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Communication Officer to join the Communications team. Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Officer will work with the Communications team to promote PAU through internal communications and dealing with the media, with press releases and development of monthly staff, student and alumni communications as well as assisting with the coordination of promotional events such as reunions, networking, education and community events that are in line with the values and culture of the University.

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in Public Relations/Marketing/Journalism/Communications or a related discipline
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience which provide a wide range of skills in areas of communication, public relations and marketing

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, including the ability to represent PAU and work effectively with people of all ages, in particular the student body and members of the University communities.
  • High quality administrative skills with the ability to manage a number of competing tasks simultaneously and to meet deadlines.
  • Have high level of attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of work
  • Creative graphic design capabilities in producing newsletters, posters, flyers, digital marketing and other promotional internal and external material.
  • Able to show initiative, common sense and problem solve in own function area and co-ordinate duties for special events.
  • Demonstrated track record of supporting and working with others to roll out an action plan, assisting with promotional campaigns.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft 365 products and familiarity with Adobe Suite products, and capabilities to develop skills in other relevant programs/software such as MailChimp and Canva.
  • Up-to-date awareness of university information and events.
