POSITION TITLE: Community Health Worker – Fix Term Contract or Daily Worker


Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) is a private, non-profit international humanitarian organization, founded in 1971 and working in more than 70 countries around the world. MSF is dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in crisis, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, belief or political affiliation. In PNG, MSF has been working since 2005 in places such as Lae, Tari and Bougainville. MSF is now extending its activities in order to support the Department of Health to improve access to care for tuberculosis patients in Gulf Province and NCD.


  • Welcome patients and facilitate the flow to the appropriate consultation and management rooms
  • Ensure good flow of patients to avoid overcrowding at the clinic entrance and in front of all rooms
  • Allocate TB patients and patients with symptoms of TB to the TB clinic, and others to the appropriate sections in the hospital
  • Educate patients on cough etiquette/respiratory hygiene and give basic TB education in the TB clinic facility
  • Administer oral and/or injectable TB medications to patients according to their treatment regimen, and in compliance with proper infection control and safety measures
  • Ensure proper record keeping of patient treatment cards and clinic files
  • Identify patients with treatment adherence issues
  • Assist in registering patients at the registration desk in the TB clinic
  • Bring any patient with an obvious serious medical problem to the attention of the doctor, the HEO, or his/her supervisor
  • To support patients in the catchment area of Gerehu Clinic at the community level ( outreach activities)


  • Based in MSF NCD-Project, Port Moresby
  • Gerehu hospital and outreach activities
  • Fix Term Contract or daily worker (back up in case of sick leaves …)


  • Community Health Worker (CHW) certificate, License to practice and Registration number
  • Minimum 1 year working experience in similar positions will be preferred.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory.
  • Good knowledge of local languages.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Flexibility in working hours and ability to come to work in a short notice
