Save the Children has been supporting communities in PNG since 1978. We’re committed to be a platform for transformative and lasting change for children, their families and their communities. As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will provide overall administration and leadership of finance, ICT and supply chain functions of the PNG country office. You will drive improvements in the capability of all staff to establish and implement policies and procedures for accurate financial reporting and ‘value-for-money’ procurement.

Save the Children is no ordinary not-for-profit.

We’re ambitious, creative and outspoken. We stand up for children’s rights. We want all children to be educated, healthy and live a life free from violence. We run programs across the Pacific, if there’s a disaster - like an earthquake, drought or conflict – we are there on the ground.

Where you come in:

In this unaccompanied, full-time 3-year maximum-term position based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea you will work on implementing global SOPs and ensuring that the Country Office(s) comply with applicable financial policies, procedures and donor award conditions. You will be part of the International Programs – Pacific team and report to the Country Director, PNG with technical leadership provided by Finance Business Partner, International Programs (Melbourne based).

You will make an impact by:

  • Leading the establishment of a supply chain team
  • Building the capability of program offices to undertake more decentralized functions
  • Developing a high-performing team to deliver quality customer service
  • Providing accurate, timely and informative financial reports to inform management decisions
  • Proactively assessing the strength and health of the business to implement and drive process improvements across all levels

If we could compose the perfect you…

…You are primarily driven by providing valuable information to management to assist and support their decision-making process. With a toolkit of various skills and experience, you are comfortable ‘rolling up your sleeves’ and applying your skills to get the work done. Humour, patience, resilience and your passion for instilling a learning and training agenda, is what sets you apart as a good people manager. You enjoy working autonomously across both finance and support services teams as you bridge the gap to create cohesion and collaboration.

This role requires:

  • Tertiary qualifications gained in Accounting, Finance or Business Management
  • Senior management experience gained within a finance environment
  • Experience in leading a shared service function including ICT, finance and procurement
  • Proven team leadership showing the development of staff and team capabilities
  • Supply chain and / or procurement management experience
  • Solid background in financial reporting and analysis

Working at Save the Children is more than just a job.

It’s the feeling of knowing that your work is contributing to making the world a better place for children and working with others who feel the same. We offer:

  • Mobilization / demobilization allowances
  • Annual airfares
  • Insurances
  • Accommodation allowances including basic utilities
