Barrick (Niugini) Limited ("BNL") is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.

The Porgera Joint Venture now has a vacancy for qualified and experienced individuals in the following position:

Engineer – Mechanical (NS_904 & NS_905)

Position provides engineering support to the Maintenance Technical Services Projects Team on site at Porgera. Engineers on this team will assist with or manage capital and minor projects, investigate and prepare scopes of work and manage projects through to commissioning and handover.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Greater than 3-years post-graduate experience in a relevant workplace.
  • Practical & Technical ability to work effectively and safely in a Mining/Heavy Industrial environment
  • Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas.
  • Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills.
  • A current PNG Drivers License.
  • Basic skills in the use of Autocad.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Deliver projects to completion in a timely and effective manner.
  • Through the use of procedures to get the job done, ensure that improvements to the procedures are captured and changes are made to controlled documents by custodian.
  • Ensure effective communication with delegate prior to departure from site.
  • Utilise their engineering skills and knowledge to identify and investigate opportunities on site to use energy more efficiently.
  • Develop project scopes of work and manage these projects through to successful completion in a timely manner.
  • Manage and communicate with Contractors performing the work and liaise with other stakeholders
  • Contribute to other engineering duties that may arise as part of the day to day operations
  • Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the PJV Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures.
