POSITION: Operations Manager.

DEPARTMENT: Ukarumpa International School (UIS)

PURPOSE: To support the task of Bible Translation and other SIL activities by acting as the business leader of the school, responsible for day-to-day operation of its facility, supervision of national staff, and establish positive relationships with external PNG education entities.


1. Facility & IT Management

  • Oversees the physical operation of the school facility including maintenance, repairs and renovations; safety and security; grounds management and building cleaning.
  • Oversees the maintenance, repair, and installation of technology systems, including the classroom display technologies (laptop, projectors, and document cameras).
  • Oversees overall school maintenance, furniture purchase & placement.
  • Manage and maintain overall school cleanliness.
  • Negotiate and manage school facility rentals.
  • Develop and maintain detailed annual facilities/maintenance calendar.
  • Campus Security -
    • Oversee security procedures (camera systems, key control, building alarm systems, etc.).
    • Plans and executes fire drills, lock down drills, and other safety protocols.

2. Staff Leadership

  • Manage the day-to-day activities and job duties of all national staff and meet regularly with them to ensure quality of infrastructure and services.
  • Authorize the Pay Clock approval for all national staff and oversee fortnight payment.
  • Provide strong leadership and direction and maintain high morale, including coordination of staff devotion time.
  • Ensure staff documents (i.e. contracts, job descriptions, performance appraisals, leave forms, etc.) are organized in one location and regular Performance Appraisals are occurring.

3. Purchasing

  • Oversee all school purchasing including in-country and out-of-country purchases.
  • Maintain monthly records of school account financial trends.

4. External Education Entities

  • Coordinate the National PNG Exam process including transportation, logistics, and communication with Provencal Education Supervisor, other schools, and students.
  • Manage all communication with the Department of Education (DOE) and the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology (DHERST) staff and upload DOE and DHERST details as needed.

5. Perform other duties as requested by supervisors


  • Minimum Bachelor Degree (Business, Management, Education, Informatics & Hospitality)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a supervisory/managing role
  • Must have a Police Clearance Certificate – preferably not less than 6 months old
  • Good time management and organization skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Computer literate, including skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Class 6 Drivers License preferred
  • Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines


  • Relates well both with nationals and expatriates
  • Have good temperament and acceptable sound walk of life
  • Have ability to work independently under pressure, flexible to adjust with change, and teachable
  • Honest, reliable and be committed to acceptable Christian principles
  • Verifiable commitment to SIL goals and objectives and principles with a servant heart
  • Ability to be flexible with the work schedule and work routine
