TYPE / DURATION: 12-month contract with 6-month probationary period

ABOUT:

The Balimo College educational campus was established by SDP in 2019 to build the education and health standards and pathways for the Western Province. Through the college, SDP now proudly delivers tertiary qualifications in Junior Primary Teaching under the Balimo Teachers College program; secondary school certification and GPA upgrades through Flexible Open Distance Education (FODE); and E-Learning programs in schools around the area. SDP now embarks on an exciting new chapter expanding the campus and opening the Balimo Model School.

BALIMO MODEL SCHOOL (BMS):

Originated by the late Honourable Roy Biyama, infrastructure for the BMS has been completed in preparation for commencement of the 2024 academic year.

The BMS will cater for all levels of schooling, including Early Childhood Education, Primary Schooling and Secondary Schooling, and aims to grow to support 1,000 students by the end of 2028. The model school will operate in an environment conducive to quality teaching and learning, being inclusive and responsive to additional needs, and removing educational barriers for local students to learn and grow in a safe and supportive environment.

ABOUT THE ROLES:

We are currently seeking to recruit 6 passionate educators to fill roles for Secondary Teachers across grades 7-12, with a preference for the final team to fully cover the educational specialisms of English, Maths, Science, Social Science, Business/Economics. The ideal candidates will be experienced teachers with a passion for fostering a positive school culture, and the ability to drive academic excellence among their students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Teaching:
   • Develop and deliver lesson plans that align with the curriculum and PNG educational standards;
   • Conduct the teaching, marking, assessment and monitoring of curriculum and determine instructional and assessment strategies to suit a range of student needs;
   • Utilise a variety of teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles;
   • Oversee and set student targets in accordance with the requirements of the curriculum;
   • Identify and address the individual learning needs of students;
   • Implement strategies to support students with varying academic abilities;
2. Student support and classroom management:
   • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning, including encouraging students to take responsibility for their own learning;
   • Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a respectful and focused learning atmosphere;
   • Motivate and monitor students throughout the academic year;
   • Support students as they approach and take exams to be fully prepared and confident with the process and material;
   • Research, prepare and customise learning materials suitable for a range of teaching and learning settings and a range of students;
3. Student Assessment:
   • Conduct marking and assessment and provide appropriate feedback throughout the year;
   • Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student progress;
   • Create individualised learning plans for students with required additional needs;
   • Adapt learning and assessment tasks to a range of learner abilities;
   • Provide constructive feedback to students and parents on academic performance;
4. Collaboration:
   • Work collaboratively with colleagues within BMS, SDP and KTF to enhance the overall educational experience;
   • Participate in department meetings and professional development activities.
5. Parent and Guardian Communication:
   • Maintain open and effective communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress;
   • Attend parent-teacher conferences and other school-related events.
6. Operations
   • Maintain accurate records of students’ attendance, progress and assessment and communicate these to Principal and Deputy Principal

1. Professional Development:

• Stay abreast of current educational trends, teaching methodologies, and subject-specific developments;
• Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.

8. Other
   • Any other duties as directed by the BMS Management;
   • Adhere to all KTF policies and procedures including child protection policy, no-alcohol, drugs & buai policy, disability policy, gender equity policy, and counter terrorism policy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor degree of Education – Secondary Education;
• Minimum 2 years teaching experience with teaching registration obtained (secondary teaching);

SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

• Knowledge of educational regulations and compliance standards in PNG;
• High level of communication, mentoring and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently or as a member of a team;
• Ability to research, select and use a wide range of teaching and assessment strategies to suit the needs of a diverse range of students, including those with disabilities and from other disadvantaged groups;
• A good understanding and competence of technology for email communications, data management, administration;
• Possess the ability to apply information and communication technologies to the teaching and learning process as well as collecting, organising and processing relevant data;
• Open to learning new and innovative approaches to learning through use of technology;

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Applicants must have the right to work in PNG;
• This position may require travel within PNG from time to time;
