The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Specialist – Services for a FIFO position on Lihir Island, PNG. Reporting to the Superintendent Facility Maintenance - Plant End, you will be responsible for technical operation and maintenance of water and sewer infrastructure, ensure that the standard of service is met and facilitating handover from project- based management to an operational system. The incumbent will also need to do capacity building with the Operators, enabling both areas to operate within compliance with PNG & Internation standards and in accordance with New Crest Company Policies, procedures and specification. He/ she will also require effective management of the section’s resources to optimise effective and efficient water and wastewater services to Towns and Camps Facilities

The role will have responsibility to:

  • Drive and influence proactive safety behaviours within workgroups through visible leadership.
  • Ensure all personnel, visitors and contractors comply with site and contractual HSE requirements and hold people accountable for adherence.
  • Plan work so that it can be conducted safely; and considers environmental conditions, nearby activities, and the people and other resources needed to complete the work.
  • Foster the development of tradespersons to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Lead the water and wastewater team to ensure the required standard of service is met and ensure asset management plans and systems are in place.
  • Plan, Organise and provide leadership and control all required maintenance work as dictated via the required maintenance work order(s) from implementation to completion.
  • Effectively manage the departments/ company resources to optimise effective and efficient water and wastewater operations.
  • Control all operational aspects of water and wastewater infrastructure, including compliance to regularity standards.
  • Ensure synergies between operation and maintenance teams are developed.
  • Understand the usage of the current systems – Excel, SAP, and how to best utilise other relevant systems appropriate.
  • Maintain ongoing leadership, mentoring, training and support of Follow Town Maintenance colleagues / Business Partners within the section as and when required.
  • Provide Support to the water and waste-water Supervisor’s and Superintendent, Facilities Maintenance-Town End as and when required and other relevant duties as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with safety best practice in line with NML’s NewSafe Safety System
  • Ensure compliance with LGL’s Environmental Policies and Procedures

Essential criteria:

  • 5 years’ relevant work experience in water and wastewater operations, management and Infrastructure
  • Degree or Diploma qualification in Water and Wastewater Treatment and or such other qualification or Experience.

Desirable Criteria

  • Leadership skills for a multi-cultural workforce.
  • competence in managing priorities to meet business and statutory requirements
  • Work in accordance with PNG Mine Safety Act, Newcrest Safety System, Safety Policies and procedures and Newcrest Environment policies and all departmental operating procedures.
  • Company-wide and departmental systems including Microsoft Office and competent use of SAP Office Systems.
  • Train and develop the building maintenance crew to ensure optimum facilities availability and reliability through effectively communicating maintenance plans and monitoring and following up on consistency of facilities maintenance standards and practices.

The Requirements.

  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
  • Must have a current PNG Class 6 License
