Barrick (Niugini) Limited (“BNL”) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold Corporation and Zijin Mining Group-which own 95% participating interest in the Porgera Joint Venture. The remaining 5% is owned by Mineral Resource Enga (MRE) Limited – a consortium consisting of the Enga Provincial Government and the Porgera landowners.


Reporting to the Superintendent - Resettlement, the incumbent will be required to actively support the resettlement planning and implementation phases of the project and all associated engagement activities. The Specialist – Resettlement Planning and Engagement will support the Superintendent – Resettlement to ensure that the resettlement pilot is undertaken in a diligent yet, participatory and inclusive manner with key stakeholders, including local Landowners and the PNG National Government.

It is essential that the successful applicant is motivated and committed to achieving team objectives. He /She will have an excellent command of English and Pidgin both written and spoken and must be willing to work with and engage with the community.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Land Studies or related field is essential.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement planning and implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design, planning and implementation of stakeholder engagement plans.
  • Demonstrated experience and success in communicating with a wide range of stakeholders on complex projects.
  • Demonstrated success in stakeholder engagement generally and specifically in undertaking negotiations with communities to achieve mutually acceptable outcomes under complex socio-cultural conditions.
  • Demonstrated experience of conflict management, mediation and resolution.
  • Demonstrated team-player with ability to manage communications in a challenging environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and monitor processes and procedures that ensure timely and consistent implementation of key deliverables.
  • Ability to prioritise task.
  • Work well under pressure.
  • Can apply strategic thinking to complex challenges resulting in practical solutions.
  • Ability to work in a challenging environment where there can be multiple demands on your time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the team to ensure project deliverables are managed to cost, quality, quantity and schedule in accordance with project plan.
  • Support the development and implementation of a resettlement action plan for the pilot project.
  • Support the management of consultants and team members to ensure project deliverables are achieved.
  • Actively support internal alignment and collaboration on the resettlement project through providing the required support to various teams involved with the resettlement project.
  • Support the implementation of necessary surveys and associated activities required to undertake a successful resettlement project.
  • Maintain sound records of all data required to undertake a successful resettlement project.
  • Support the management of resettlement related grievances and ensure they are resolved as per the Porgera Joint Venture Grievance Procedure.
