Globe 24-7 in partnership with Newcrest Mining, is working together to source experienced and qualified talent to join their Power & Utilities, Electrical & Instrumentation team to support their Lihir Gold Operations (LGO).

The Role

We are now seeking for an experienced Technician - Electrical for a FIFO position based at our Lihir Gold Operation (LGO) with Power and Utilities Department. Reporting to the Supervisor – Electrical & Instrumentation, the incumbent will undertake day-to-day electrical maintenance tasks to achieve consistently high standards of safety, availability, and reliability at the Power & Utilities. He/she will ensure optimum equipment availability and reliability by taking ownership of equipment and actioning any instrumentation maintenance requirements in a timely manner.

The role will have responsibility to:

  • Work in accordance with PNG Mine Safety Act, Newcrest Safety System, Safety Policies and Procedures and Newcrest Environment policies and all departmental operating procedures.
  • Analytical skills for fault finding / diagnosis and repair of faulty electrical equipment, control wiring systems and process control interface.
  • Proficient in the reading / interpretation & accurate updating of electrical drawings.
  • Installation, repair, and maintenance of industrial electrical equipment including HV and LV motors, motor control centres, variable speed drives, power distribution and lighting systems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills of practicing Australian Electrical installation standards (AS/NZS 3000).
  • Preparation and maintenance of records for work performed.
  • Assembling, evaluating, testing, and maintaining electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, and apparatus.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing malfunctioning equipment, appliances, and apparatus.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.

Essential criteria

  • 3 – 5 years relevant work experience essential in heavy industry preferably within a mining environment.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience maintaining mechanical and electrical equipment is required.
  • Electrical Trades Certificate/Diploma from a recognized institution in PNG.
  • Minimum 5 years’ electrical/mechanical technician experience supporting the testing, calibration, repair, and maintenance of systems required.
  • Solid understanding and awareness of HSE requirements, responsibilities, and obligations.
  • Experience supporting electrical troubleshooting, power distribution systems, and other electrical/electronic experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in performing maintenance on electrical equipment according to preventative maintenance programs.
  • Proficient in good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously from time to time.
  • High attention to detail with good time management skills.

Desirable criteria

  • PNG Driver’s License desirable
  • Certificate in Instrumentation

The Requirements

  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
