ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT:

The Institute of Business Studies (IBS), from its’ humble beginning in 1987 as an arm of Nades & Associates primarily providing revision classes for the needs of Papua New Guinea Institute of Accountants (now CPA PNG), has evolved into a private University level Institution over the last thirty-five years. It has elevated as a University in January 2017 and offering its own degree programmes in the fields of Accounting & Finance, Business & Management, Economics & Development Studies and Information Technology.

Today we are one of the largest business schools in the country and continue to grow into the future. These successes are the fruits of our dedicated team member’s commitment to making a difference in Papua New Guinea through their efforts in helping educate fellow citizens.

The University is affiliated with the Southern Cross University (SCU) of Australia since 1999 and offers its degree programmes in Accounting, Business, and Information Technology. The affiliation with Southern Cross University has made IBS the first and only Institution to offer internationally recognised Bachelor programmes face to face in Papua New Guinea.

Job Description

• Manage the day-to-day operations of the payroll department, including the processing of semi-monthly payrolls and related reports.
• Ensure the accuracy of payroll information through review, audit, and analysis of employee time sheets, payroll records and reports.
• Maintain payroll system, including data entry, updating of employee information, and maintenance of electronic time tracking records.
• Ensure payroll is processed timely and accurately in accordance with IRC and Nasfund regulations.
• Answer questions and provide customer service to internal and external customers regarding payroll matters.
• Ensure compliance with payroll-related regulations regarding wage garnishments, taxes and other deductions.
• Train and supervise payroll staff and ensure payroll staff is organized and meets deadlines.
• Maintain the confidentiality of all employee information and payroll records

Qualifications/Experience - Skills and Attributes

• Tertiary Qualification in Accounting, Human Resources, or a similar field.
• Previous supervisory experience. Preferably 5 years or more.
• Advanced Mathematical skills and strong attention to detail.
• Proficient with payroll software including Smoothpay.
• Familiarity with accounting software and procedures.
• Ability to handle confidential information.
• Familiarity with PNG Labour Laws
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to prepare and present financial reports.
• Strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations.
• Strong organizational, communication and customer service skills.
• Able to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and payroll software.
