Our Lihir operation in Mining Department is now recruiting for the position of Geologist – Mining for FIFO role based at our Lihir Gold Operation (LGO).

Reporting to Senior Project Geologist, you will be required to run the day-to-day activities of Mine Geology projects within the Lihir Mine area, which are essentially focussed on RC drilling programs aimed at providing timely Medium-Term Plan (MTP) Model for the 13-weekly Mine plan.

The role will have responsibility to:

• Drives and influences proactive safety behaviours within workgroups through Visible leadership.
• Plans work so that it can be conducted safely, and it duly considers environmental conditions, nearby activities and the people and other resources needed to complete the work.
• Proactively designs RC drilling patterns to ensure the MTP model is updated for the 13-weekly mine plan by working with the various planning teams to develop appropriate schedules.
• Manages drilling activities and assists with safety and QA/QC compliance.
• Ensures samples are collected and analysed in a timely manner while minimise drilling standby time.
• Updates and manages data storage in a timely manner, enabling planning to use the latest data.
• Coordinates geo-metallurgical sampling for offsite and onsite Labs.
• Actively participates in risk assessments and flag potential monthly production risks by working with Mine Geology and Mine Planning.

Essential criteria

Ideally, our preferred applicant will have;

• Tertiary Bachelor or Masters’ Degree in Earth Sciences or Geology.
• PNG Driver's Licence - Class 6 essential.
• First Aid Training advantageous.
• AusIMM (or IEPNG) membership desirable.
• 3 to 5 years’ progressive work experience as a Mine or Project Geologist is required.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in English is essential.
• Experience with supervising drill rigs is desirable.
• Advanced planning, organizational, communication, project management and problem-solving skills.
• Reviews data to assess performance and identify opportunities for maximising results, reducing risk and implementing cost management initiatives.
• Advanced computer and administrative software skills (MS Office suite, acQuire, etc.,).
• Strong interpersonal skills and team player to work with coworkers and contractors.
• Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
• Cross-cultural awareness and understanding is required.
