We are seeking to recruit a Monitoring Technician for our MTS – Environment Department. Reporting to the Senior Monitoring Officer, the successful applicant will be part of a team implementing the company’s environmental monitoring programs in accordance with accepted industry standards and government regulations and adhering to the company’s Health and Safety systems, policies and procedures.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- Collect environmental monitoring samples (water, soil/sediment, dust, noise, air) to the required standard including appropriate field treatment as required.
- Ensure collected samples are preserved and appropriately stored until dispatched to external laboratories for testing.
- Ensure field water quality parameters are acquired by following appropriate field protocol and records uploaded to the environmental database as required.
- Contribute to the timely completion of planned environmental monitoring schedules/programs as described in Hidden Valley Environmental Management Plan to meet regulatory and company requirements.
- Ensure all data received from external laboratories are uploaded into MP5 Database on a timely basis.
- Ensure all data collected daily is updated on the value stream board charts.
- Ensure Chain of Custody documentation for samples collected and dispatched is fully completed and tracked through to receipt of sample by the respective external laboratories.
- Ensure that the Chain of Custody (CoC) Register is updated for every sample dispatch.
- Complete stores records accurately to maintain correct stock records for all required consumables including sample bottles, gloves, bailers, etc.
- Contribute to the maintenance of adequate stock levels to ensure timely completion of regulatory and operational monitoring requirements.
- Initiate new orders for stock as and when stock levels trigger re-ordering of stocks.
- Ensure monitoring equipment is functioning correctly at all times and promptly report any malfunctioning of monitoring equipment as they occur to supervisors.
- Contribute to the implementation of the company Health and Safety system and site policies and procedures to minimize safety risk to employees and contractors
- Ensure to meet the daily individual and team Safety KPI’s as prescribed by immediate Supervisors.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:
- Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science or related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an environmental monitoring role.
- Have some exposure in mining, mineral processing or manufacturing industry.
- Have working knowledge of and experience in the implementation of environmental monitoring programs.
- Able to write and present report, utilising MS Office suites.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English & Tok-Pisin.
- Willing and able to work with company roster and work hours to accomplish goals.
- Demonstrate high level of planning and organisational skills.
- Strong safety focus.
- Must have current and valid class 3 PNG driver’s licence.
- Basic First Aid certificate, desirable.
The above role is Hidden Valley mine site based.
