The Institute of Business Studies (IBS), from its’ humble beginning in 1987 as an arm of Nades & Associates primarily providing revision classes for the needs of Papua New Guinea Institute of Accountants (now CPA PNG), has evolved into a private University level Institution over the last 34 years. Today we are one of the largest business schools in the country and off degree programmes in the fields of Accounting & Finance, Business & Management, Economics & Development Studies and Information Technology. We are seeking a qualified and passionate individual to join our team as a Lecturer for the ICT Department at the University Campus. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in business education, a commitment to student success, and the ability to deliver engaging and effective lectures. The Lecturer will play a key role in shaping the academic experience of our students and fostering a positive learning environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

In a highly student-focused role, the Lecturer should focus on strong collaboration, communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills. It is also essential that you understand Global Management Best Practices, and local industry trends. Senior Lecturer duties will involve managing and monitoring undergraduate programmes. This includes associated operational administration, curriculum development, course materials review and quality management and enhancement. Senior Lecturer duties include but are not limited to the following:

Learning & Teaching

  • Ensure quality of tutor classes and complete the assigned syllabus within the scheduled time
  • Use all the available teaching aids for better understanding and delivery of the units
  • Ensure the benchmark for lectures is achieved in the KPM’s at the end of the semester
  • Tutor specific academic subjects to individuals or small groups
  • Monitor student’s attendance and progress
  • Use pre-determined Institution resources to deliver the tutoring as outlined

Lesson Preparation, Assessment & Examination Duties

  • Design, develop and prepare and conduct face to face, online and co-operative programs as allocated that inspire strong discussions and keep students interested and engaged
  • Ensure that unit / course design and delivery comply with quality standards and regulations of the University and College
  • Assist in the conduct of examinations (e.g., paper setting, marking, supervision and invigilation)
  • Prepare and Submit DRMS in a timely manner

Student Learning Experience

  • Provide a high-quality learning experience to students, assisting them to achieve prescribed learning outcomes
  • Supervise student projects and academic elements of field trips as and when required
  • Supporting students’ extra-curricular activities
  • Coordinate meetings and schedules with tutees as appropriate
  • Student Pastoral Care

Research, Scholarship & Innovation:

  • Engage in research, scholarly activity and/or innovation, subject to the approval of the Head of School
  • Engage with other researchers internally, nationally & internationally to contribute to the research objectives of the respected School and Institutions research centres
  • To engaged in subject and professional research development as required and relevant to support teaching activities
  • Be active and recognised contributor to subject association and relevant professional bodies

Curriculum Development:

  • Develop & produce appropriate learning materials
  • Responsible for designing and delivery of modules and assessment methods
  • Develop course / unit materials of relevance to the highest quality for undergraduate programmes
  • Designing and delivery of Curriculum

General Duties:

  • Attend and present at relevant conferences and share knowledge and insights gained with the other schools when required
  • Liaise closely with teaching, technical and administration
  • Taking administrative responsibilities as requested by your Head of School, Division, and Registrar
  • Participate in professional development activities to improve tutorial skill and continue to grow cultural competence.
  • Provide support as a team member in other operational activities as and when requires
  • Participate in Institutions staff development initiatives relating to learning & teaching

The following criteria is considered to be ESSENTIAL:

  • Master’s Degree or Higher in Computing or related course
  • At least 3 years experience in teaching
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with students and all levels of employees and management
  • Excellent business judgement, analytical and decision-making skills
  • Ability to review program design on a regular basis to ensure compliance with quality standards and academic regulations and to make alterations where appropriate.
  • Ability to demonstrate equivalent core knowledge in units taken
  • Ability to use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students
  • Capacity to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, management, other organizations and external stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate and impart complex conceptual ideas in a variety of way – presentations, reports, journal articles etc.
  • Ability to plan workloads and projects and manage resources effectively
  • Sound Computer skills
  • Good work ethics, of sober habits and with the right attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Great customer focus and team player
  • Excellent active listening and presentation skills
  • Managing succession planning of staff
  • Ability to develop ideas and new student-centered approaches responding to individual learning styles
  • Effective time management skills and attention to detail
