The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is Australia's trusted voice in the Asia Pacific region. ABC International Development is the ABC's media development unit. We are part of the Asia-Pacific media community with specialist staff based throughout Australia and the region.

The role of ABCID is to support better democratic governance by promoting public interest journalism and media that holds businesses, governments and other institutions in the Asia-Pacific region to account. It also enables media organisations in the region to connect with Australia and Australian values.

ABCID works with media organisations and communication partners to connect them with communities and empower people to have a voice on issues affecting their lives. It supports storytellers through training, sharing media expertise and providing technical and program support to partners, in three areas - skills and abilities, content creation and broadcast, and research.

By using the ABC's strengths in organisational management and public interest broadcasting, the ABCID team aspires to improve citizens' access to media content, information and services and support development programs to improve the health, security and sustainability of communities, including those in vulnerable groups. To do this we use inclusive media, open communication, information, education and knowledge sharing. We recognise the role of media and communication in the development of positive social and behavioural change.
