Islands Petroleum is an independently owned fuel and lubes distributor, and the exclusive distributor for Mobil Lubricants in Papua New Guinea. Islands Petroleum operates bulk fuel and lubricant Depots and Distribution Centers in the Islands, Momase, Southern, and the Highlands regions. Our national head office is based in Kokopo.

We are urgently recruiting for Accountant- Payable for our Finance Department and to be based in our Port Moresby Office, NCD.

The Role & Responsibilities

This role is responsible to lead the Accounts Payable and Budget affairs of the Company.

  • Verifying and approving Purchase Orders, AP Payments and Invoices and ensure postings are accurate in Pronto.
  • Ensure monthly price change – MOPS (Diesel/Petrol) and updates MOBIL-BUYBACK pricing in Pronto.
  • Determine the MRT/LCT pricing and process bulk stock receipting.
  • Guides AP/AR staff by coordinating activities and clearing queries.
  • Bank Reconciliations/Suppliers Acc/Customers Acc: Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing financial information.
  • Journals posting and cleaning PL / Balance sheet items monthly.
  • Ensure accuracy of compliance with IRC and GST reviews.
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly and year end close - process in Pronto.
  • Regularly communicate with Managers – HO / Depots
  • CAPEX – Assets Register on new acquisition and disposal of assets.
  • Continuous management and support of Budget and forecast activities.
  • Developing organizational budget with managers
  • Reviewing proposals for completeness, accuracy and compliance with company standards.
  • Consolidating the organizational budget for review.
  • Vetting funding requests for merit and authenticity.
  • Monitoring spending and keeping the company within its set budget.
  • Preparing reports and estimating future financial needs.
  • Defending budget recommendations with data and evidence-based analyses.

Role Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, commerce, or a management.
  • A CPA member or in the process of gaining CPA recognition.
  • 5 years minimum industry work experience in accounting /finance
  • Experience in Pronto is desirable or any other Accounting Software experience.
  • High volume processing and high attention to detail
  • Good understanding of accounting principles and strong working knowledge of Excel.
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements
  • Deadline-Oriented: Accurate and timely reporting and completion of assignments.
  • Must have driven, passion and resilience to work in finance environment.
  • Must possess the ability to always maintain confidentiality when relating to company matters.
