About the role
The Alternate Superintendent Metallurgist – Projects supports the Superintendent in leading the planning, execution, and delivery of metallurgical and processing-related projects. This role ensures continuity and oversight in the Superintendent’s absence and is responsible for ensuring that metallurgical project activities align with operational goals, safety standards, and long-term business objectives.
In this role, you will;
- Act as the Superintendent Metallurgist – Projects in their absence, ensuring continuity of leadership and project progress.
- Support the planning and execution of metallurgical projects, including plant upgrades, process improvement initiatives, pilot testing, and commissioning.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, maintenance, and contractors) to deliver project milestones on time and within budget.
- Provide technical input into process design, flow sheet development, and project scoping.
- Lead Geometallurgy work for LOM expansions in collaboration with Geology team
- Ensure Metallurgical laboratory is fully equipped for all testwork programs to be executed onsite
- Monitor project KPIs, track progress, and report on performance metrics to stakeholders.
- Manage metallurgical test work programs and interpret data to inform process decisions.
- Ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Support risk assessments, HAZOPs, and change management processes.
- Mentor junior metallurgists and contribute to knowledge transfer and skills development within the team.
- Maintain strong stakeholder engagement with internal departments and external partners.
- Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies & procedures.
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of experience in mineral processing, with a strong background in project management or major capital works.
- Experience in managing or supporting metallurgical projects in a mining or processing environment.
- Directly involved in driving and executing Geometallurgy work
- Proficient in metallurgical process design, test work interpretation, and plant commissioning.
- Strong project management skills, including scheduling, budgeting, and risk management.
- Familiarity with project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, or similar).
- Demonstrated leadership ability with cross-functional project teams.
- Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure in dynamic environments.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and budget
