Consort Express Lines under Steamships Trading Company is actively seeking a highly skilled, results-driven, and experienced professional to join our team as a Boarding Officer.As the Boarding Officer, you will serve as the primary point of contact for vessels arriving at port. This critical role ensures the seamless processing of all formalities and declarations required for the efficient entry and departure of assigned vessels. You will play a key part in maintaining our high standards of operational excellence and customer service.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role based in Lae, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. As a Boarding Officer, your responsibilities are:

• Planning and submission of Beth Applications, Pilot Request, Mooring/Tug Service Request & Coordination of DG applications for DG permits.
• Ships Boarding – Go on board the vessel and meet the captain on arrival.
• Berthage application for vessels to take berth
• Pilotage – Fill in the pilot request for vessels berthing and unberthing
• Renew ship’s documents nearing expiring date, permits for repairs, Mobilization repair and Customs clearance – when sailing overseas.
• Daily updating of vessels movement and communicating to managers and or operation staff and stevedores
• Work with scheduling team, vessel staff and Stevedores to improve all aspects of vessel working through PNG.
• Weekly Cargo Completion Report – sent after every vessel/voyage departure
• Initiate pre-plan meetings, review SOB list and verify any discrepancies
• Operations White Board to be updated daily based on changes of vessel ETA/ETD/delays.
• Ensure that cargo operations updates are being sent through by stevedores on time and as requested (via what’s app)

Required Experience.

• 5 years or more experience in port operations or stevedoring management.
• Experience with a cargo documentation management platform, such as Cargo wise, Softship.
• Experience with smaller coastal vessels including tugs and landing craft.

Qualifications and Key Competencies

• Minimum Grade 10 or 12 with Certificate in Ports and Shipping Operation
• Ability to work in challenging environments
• A solutions-based work mentality
• Pays intricate attention to detail
• Able to break down complex technical problems/solutions into layman language for ease of customer understanding
• Team player, but not afraid to stand alone during sensitive case management and conflict resolutions
• Possesses managerial courage; can debate constructively and reach a mutual solution for all parties involved
