ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Team Leader– Collection, the Collection Officer is responsible for monitoring and following up on outstanding accounts, ensuring timely collection of payments in line with company policies and regulatory requirements. This role involves engaging with clients to negotiate repayment plans, maintaining accurate records of communications, and escalating delinquent accounts as needed. The Collections Officer contributes to the department’s goal of minimizing arrears while maintaining positive customer relationships.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contact customers regarding overdue accounts through calls, emails, or visits.
  • Negotiate repayment arrangements within company policies.
  • Maintain daily collection targets and performance benchmarks
  • Communicate professionally and empathetically to maintain customer trust.
  • Educate clients on repayment obligations and consequences of non-payment.
  • Provide guidance on restructuring or repayment options, if available.
  • Maintain up-to-date collection notes and repayment histories.
  • Prepare daily/weekly collection reports for the Team Leader.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal reporting requirements
  • Adhere to financial policies, procedures, and statutory requirements in handling disbursements and repayments.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation.
  • Maintain proper records in line with data protection and corporate governance standards.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree or Diploma qualification in Business, Accounting, Banking, or related field.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in credit control, collections, or a related financial role.
  • Knowledge of banking/financial products and recovery processes preferred
  • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet targets.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in records.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach.
  • Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements
