Position: Communications Technician

Location: Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

About the Role

TE PNG Ltd is seeking an experienced Communications Technician who would be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing communication systems and equipment. This includes voice, video, data, and wireless systems. The role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in both field and office environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

PREFERRED SKILLS

• Experience with radio systems (HF, VHF, UHF, IDAS, DMR), cellular systems, or microwave communications.
• Familiarity with Cisco or other networking certifications (e.g., CCNA).
• Fiber optic splicing and testing certifications.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Military communications or field radio experience.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or vocational training in electronics, telecommunications, or related field preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in communications systems installation or support.
• Strong understanding of RF communications, IP networking, and fiber optic systems.
• Proficient in the use of test and measurement equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, TDRs, signal generators).
• Knowledge of FCC rules, EIA/TIA standards, and relevant codes.
• Ability to climb ladders, lift to 50 lbs, and work in confined or elevated spaces if required.
