About the role

Joining our maintenance team on site, in this role you will be responsible for assisting in the rigging and lifting operations within an industrial mining environment. This role involves the safe and efficient handling of loads, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.

Key Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

  • Ensuring that the sections daily work plans are executed as directed.
  • Assist in the setup and dismantling of rigging equipment, including hoists, cranes, and other lifting devices.
  • Work with various rigging gear such as slings, ropes, and chains to secure loads for lifting and moving.
  • Assist Supervisor develop Safe Lifting Plan and assessments
  • Identify load centre of gravity and determine appropriate rigging configurations.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Conduct pre-lift inspections of rigging equipment and report any defects or concerns to supervisors.
  • Participate in risk assessments, JSAs, and toolbox meetings.
  • Maintain work areas in a clean and safe condition.
  • Stop unsafe work and report hazards or incidents immediately.
  • Assist in the movement of materials and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Interpret lift plans, load charts, and site drawings.
  • Assist crane operators and signal lifts using approved hand signals or radio communication.
  • Ensure barricades and exclusion zones are in place during lifting operations.
  • Maintain clear communication with team members and equipment operators during rigging operations.
  • Report any incidents or near misses to ensure continuous improvement in safety practices.
  • Complete necessary paperwork related to rigging operations, including equipment inspection logs and work permits.
  • Maintain an organized work area and ensure that rigging equipment is stored properly after use
  • Strong understanding of rigging principles and load control.
  • Ability to read drawings and lift plans.
  • Excellent situational awareness and safety focus.
  • Clear communication and teamwork.
  • Problem-solving during complex lifts.
  • Ability to work at heights and in varied weather conditions.

About You

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you have all or some of the following

  • Minimum Grade eight educational qualification, but preferably a Grade ten certificate or PETT courses.
  • Current Basic Rigging License (or equivalent certification).
  • Understanding of rigging principles and safe lifting practices.
  • Working at Heights certification.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and follow directions from supervisors.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role preferably in the construction, heavy Engineering or Mining industry
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual work, including lifting heavy loads.
  • Ability to read and write both Pidgin and English
