Get to Know Us

Since 1833, Svitzer has played a key role in global towage. While our fleet gets the job done on the water, it’s our shore-based teams that make sure everything’s ready to go. Whether you're supporting operations, technical, safety or logistics, you'll be part of a trusted, down-to-earth team that takes pride in doing things properly, together.

We’re seeking a Crewing Officer to join our team in Port Moresby on a permanent full-time basis. In this role, you’ll oversee the local crewing process, ensuring our operations are supported by a skilled and ready workforce. If you’re passionate about coordinating people, driving efficiency, and supporting safe, reliable operations, this is your chance to make a meaningful impact.

Why You’ll Want to Join Us

Svitzer has been operating in Papua New Guinea for over a decade, delivering essential towage services that keep trade moving through Port Moresby and beyond. By joining our small, supportive team, you’ll be part of an operation that combines local impact with global standards, where safety, reliability, and teamwork are at the core of everything we do.

How You’ll Make a Difference

Reporting to the local Port Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the end-to-end recruitment and selection of seafarers in collaboration with the People & Culture team
  • Ensuring vessels are manned with qualified, competent, and certified crew at all times
  • Coordinating crew mobilisation and demobilisation, including travel, accommodation, and visa requirements
  • Monitoring crew rosters and rotations, proactively addressing staffing gaps and ensuring compliance with certifications
  • Preparing and submitting accurate payroll-related data, including wages, allowances, and crew records
  • Acting as the point of contact for crew, conducting vessel visits, and addressing operational or welfare matters promptly
  • Supporting audits of crewing processes and maintaining accurate compliance documentation
  • Driving continuous improvement by reviewing how we work and identifying opportunities to be more efficient and effective

What You’ll Bring

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Previous experience in crewing, workforce, or personnel scheduling within an operational environment
  • Strong knowledge of maritime certifications and crew rostering requirements
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office programs
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Initiative and self-sufficiency, with the ability to solve problems and make confident decisions
  • Adaptability and the ability to learn quickly when faced with new systems or processes
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and manage sensitive matters across crews, managers, and stakeholders
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and identifying smarter ways of working
  • A willingness to be hands-on and responsive to operational demands
