Shape the Future of Education in PNG

  • Do you want to help build inclusive, future-ready education and training systems in Papua New Guinea (PNG)?
  • Are you excited by the role digital tools and innovation can play in system-wide transformation?
  • Catalpa is growing a pool of outstanding education and digital leaders for upcoming opportunities — and we’d love to hear from you!
  • Flexible opportunities: full-time, part-time, short-term, or longer-term

About Us

At Catalpa, we’re all about creating real impact. We’re a global development organisation that believes bright ideas—mixed with technology, creativity, and local know-how—can solve tough challenges.

Our team is a mix of engineers, designers, educators, and project delivery folk. Together, we work on projects that matter and actually change lives. One of the things we’re most proud of? Making learning accessible and engaging for communities that are often left out. Our work is meaningful, innovative, and, honestly, pretty cool. Check us out at www.catalpa.io.

About the Opportunities

We are picking up the pace with preparing for new projects in PNG and want to connect with professionals passionate about digital transformation, eLearning, education technology and innovation, and education system strengthening. As Catalpa continues to grow, so does our appetite for awesome talent!

In these senior roles, you’ll:

  • Partner with government, training providers, and institutions to design and implement digital systems that strengthen governance, planning, and evidence-based decision-making.
  • Drive an innovation agenda by piloting digital tools, eLearning platforms, and online training solutions that improve student engagement, graduate employability, and system resilience.
  • Ensure digital solutions are policy-aligned, user-centred, and sustainable — designed for lasting impact.

Your work will be both visionary and practical: grounded in evidence, shaped by users, and responsive to PNG’s unique context.

This is what we’re looking for - we’d love to meet people who have experience and expertise in any of the following areas:

  • Leading the co-design and rollout of educational data systems, digital platforms, or performance tools.
  • Designing and implementing innovative elearning approaches (e.g., micro-learning management systems, mobile tools, e-assessments, etc) with a focus on usability and sustainability.
  • Developing demand-driven digital pilots such as:
    • Behaviour change campaigns to improve enrolment or re-engage learners.
    • Job-matching and graduate–employer connection platforms.
    • Innovations in green/blue economy training, digital career counselling, or wraparound services.
  • Developing digital curricula, online training modules, and blended learning approaches tailored to PNG’s diverse contexts.
  • Utilising instructional design and digital pedagogy principles to develop relevant learning content. Bonus points if you have experience supporting teacher training and adult learning.

About You:

  • You’ll have a strong track record in digital transformation, education technology, eLearning or innovation leadership.
  • Skilled in co-design, stakeholder engagement, and adapting solutions to local contexts (e.g., low-resource or culturally diverse settings).
  • A systems thinker who is practical, collaborative, and outcomes-focused.
  • Note, these roles are open to Papua New Guinean applicants only

Extra awesome if you bring:

  • Familiarity with DFAT-funded programs, working confidently with government, donors, and institutions
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive education practices.
  • Commitment to building PNG-led digital leadership capacity

Work environment

We work in a creative, supportive environment with colleagues who come from diverse walks of life, and we value the perspectives they bring. We pay attention to the details, and we work together to achieve the best we can. Importantly, we work here because we love what we do and the impact we can have.

We know people’s lives include many obligations outside of work, so we aim to create a flexible work environment that includes remote work options, generous family leave, and return-to-work policies to support new parents. We know we do our best work when we take care of ourselves and communities. We take two weeks off at the end of each year to recharge and refresh.

Catalpa staff believe in the potential of technology to transform lives for the better. Our team members are flexible and can handle working across a broad range of responsibilities. They don’t mind rolling up their sleeves to solve thorny challenges that take time, patience, and creativity. We are friendly and care about the people with whom we work, always seeking to build and nurture relationships for the long-term.

Catalpa seeks to provide a fair and equal employment opportunity for all people, regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, age, gender, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or marital status. We especially welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds.
