The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our Mine Technical Services Department as Engineer, Drill & Blast – Open Pit.

Engineer, Drill & Blast – Open Pit (232352)

Reporting to the Senior Engineer - Drill & Blast, this role is to ensure Drill & Blast Plans, designs, Reporting of Drill & Blast activities are prioritized, designed, documented getting appropriate approvals and ensure operational activities on drill and blasts are within the plan.

In this role, you will:

• Monitor mine production activities in the open pit mine particularly about drill & blast function
• To ensure activities are undertaken in accordance with the plan and NPL Mine Departments SOP’s. Use the appropriate feedback mechanism when variances occur.
• Designing Drill and Blast patterns for; Production Drilling, Trim Blast, Pre-Shear Blast, Ramp Blast Designs, Void Collapse Designs
• Prepare Weekly Drill and Blast Reconciliation and Present at Weekly Review Meeting
• Maintain regular contact with Drill and Blast operations on issues need engineering clarification
• Produce Daily, Weekly and Monthly Drill and Blast Reports
• Ensure to record actual Blasts using Video Camera
• Train new recruits and graduates who join the Drill and Blast section
• Maintain regular contact with Drill and Blast operations on issues need engineering clarification
• Do QAQC for a pattern on every bench
• Promote environmentally sound work practices with peers, contractors and suppliers. Informing persons in work area (employees, contractors and visitors) of New Porgera’s Environmental Policy and Practices
• Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies & procedures.

About You

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experiences:

• Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Open Pit
• Mine planning software, preferably Deswik, JKSim Blast and shotplus
• Experience in Daily and Weekly Drill and Blast plans and designs
• Ensure drill and blast activities are as per standard procedures, including development of D&B designs Blasting practices/initiations and post blast
• Experience in preparing bench blast master plans
• Prepare and update daily D&B data, review weekly compliance to D&B plan
• Strong report writing and presentation skills
• Experience in coordination of Drill and Blast activities on a mine site

Mobilization Requirement

This is a PNG National position, a site-based role on a FIFO arrangement with a rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening (to be arranged only for successful candidates after the interview stage), and provide an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
