We currently have an immediate vacancy for an Environment Officer to join our already strong and vibrant Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) team in Lae. This role provides technical and implementation support to drive continuous improvement in the environmental performance of Goodman Fielder’s operations. The role includes the management of environmental data collection and performance reporting, delivering reductions in energy, waste and waste, proactively managing environmental compliance requirements and assisting in the delivery of Group Environment Initiatives.

Your responsibilities will include:

Strategic deliverables

  • Manage the collection, entry and reporting of environmental data for PNG.
  • Deliver plans to ensure the sites are compliant with all environmental legislation and GF standards.
  • Lead the work programme to achieve resource efficiency (energy, water and waste) targets for PNG.

Technical deliverables

  • To manage the timely and accurate collection of environment data and performance metrics and to support the business in using this information to drive improved environmental performance.
  • Develop and/or deliver tools and programs to support the achievement of site-based energy, water and waste targets.
  • Coordinate awareness (including training) and behaviour change initiatives targeted at our environmental priorities.
  • Influence internal stakeholders to utilise standard business processes to drive environmental improvements.
  • Proactively manage and ensure compliance with environmental legislative requirements, GF Safety and Environment Management System (SEMS) policies & procedures and GF Environmental Standards.
  • Actively manage wastewater discharge compliance requirements including collection or overseeing the collection of wastewater discharge samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Proactively identify and manage relevant stakeholder’s expectations - both regulatory and community.
  • Monitor environmental incident reporting and support, where necessary, investigation and corrective action plans.
  • Provide in-market support for the delivery of Goodman Fielder’s sustainability commitments

To be considered for the role, you will need to have:

Technical/Functional Competencies

  • Sound understanding of how environmental legislation operates.
  • Familiar with wastewater discharge compliance sampling and analysis.

Experience / Qualifications Required

  • Significant expertise in at least one of Goodman Fielder’s environmental priorities.
  • Strong internal and external stakeholder management (essential)
  • Strong communications skills
  • Experience in managing environmental compliance
  • Knowledge of waste water sampling and analysis techniques.
  • Positive disposition and resilience required to deliver sustained change.
  • Results oriented with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering or equivalent.
