GENERATOR SPECIALIST-LAE BASE

International Food Corporation Limited, the leading manufacturer of Besta Mackerel and Tuna products in Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific, is seeking to recruit a highly motivated, qualified, and experienced individual to fill the position of Generator Specialist.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:

The Generator Specialist is responsible for ensuring the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of electricity generators on site. This role involves managing and balancing electrical load distribution, ensuring continuous and reliable power supply to all operational areas, and preventing circuit overloads or system failures.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Install, operate, commission, and maintain KV (high-voltage) generator systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company standards.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on high-voltage generators, switchgear, transformers, and associated electrical equipment.
• Diagnose and rectify electrical, mechanical, and control system faults in KV generator units and power distribution systems.
• Conduct load testing, insulation resistance testing, and performance monitoring of generator systems.
• Ensure continuous and reliable power supply by responding promptly to breakdowns and emergency call-outs.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, test results, and operational reports.
• Ensure strict compliance with occupational health and safety standards, electrical safety regulations, and company procedures.
• Coordinate with engineering teams and external contractors for major repairs, upgrades, and installations.
• Monitor generator performance, voltage levels, current load, and fuel efficiency to ensure optimal operation.
• Identify spare parts requirements and support inventory and procurement planning.
• Supervise and guide junior technicians and operators when required.
• Ensure proper housekeeping of generator rooms, substations, and work areas.
• Participate in system audits, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and safety.
• Support commissioning of new high-voltage generator systems and related infrastructure.
• Report any safety hazards, equipment defects, or operational risks to management promptly.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong technical knowledge of diesel and high-voltage (KV) generator systems and power distribution equipment.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and diagnose electrical and mechanical faults efficiently.
• Sound understanding of load management, voltage control, and power balancing systems.
• Good knowledge of workplace health and safety standards and electrical safety regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and reporting skills.
• Good time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
• Physically fit and able to work in industrial and plant environments.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, shifts, and respond to emergency call-outs when required.
• High level of responsibility, integrity, and attention to detail.

Requirements / Qualifications:

• Certificate or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 3–5 years’ proven experience working with industrial or high-voltage (KV) generator systems.
• Strong knowledge of generator installation, operation, and maintenance procedures.
• Experience in load management, power distribution, and high-voltage electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards and electrical safety regulations.
• Good troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
• Physically fit and capable of working in an industrial environment.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and emergency call-outs when required.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• High level of professionalism, integrity, and reliability.
• Valid driver’s license (advantage).
• Experience in a manufacturing or food processing environment will be an added advantage.
