Graduate Engineers
HBS PNG LIMITED currently operates in numerous mine sites across PNG, both on the mainland and remote island locations. We own and operate one of the largest and best maintained mining fleets in PNG, offering the mining sector a variety of services including road construction and maintenance, haulage, lighting and crushing services and plant equipment hire.
We are taking expressions of interest from recent Graduate Engineers from the Papua New Guinea of Technology who have just completed their Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.)
Required experience:
- 0–2 years of relevant work experience.
- Recent graduate (Class of 2024 or 2025).
- Prior vacation work or internship experience in the resource or construction industry in PNG is an advantage.
The ideal candidate must have a minimum of:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Mining or Electrical) from the Papua New Guinea University of Technology
Key Accountabilities:
Technical & Operational Support
- Assist senior engineers in the planning, design, and execution of engineering projects.
- Perform technical calculations, analysis, and feasibility studies under supervision.
- Assist in the development and review of engineering drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Monitor on-site construction or maintenance activities to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
- Conduct inspections and generate technical reports for review by the Lead Engineer.
Project Management Assistance
- Support the coordination of engineering projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
- Assist in the procurement of materials and services, including liaising with local PNG vendors and contractors.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including trackers, registers, and drawing databases (e.g., D365 or similar systems).
- Assist in the preparation of project reports, including tracking progress against schedule, monitoring key performance indicators, and supporting accurate and timely status reporting.
- Support planning activities by assisting in the development and updating of project schedules, coordinating inputs from engineering and site teams, and identifying potential delays or constraints.
- Assist with cost management activities, including tracking project costs, supporting forecasting and budget updates, and contributing to variance analysis and cost reporting.
Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE)
- Actively participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and risk assessments (JSA/JHA).
- Strictly adhere to company HSSE policies and PNG statutory regulations.
- Identify and report hazards or potential environmental impacts immediately.
- Promote a "Safety First" culture among peers and contractors.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
- Work collaboratively with local communities and landowners where required, ensuring respectful engagement.
- Support the implementation of community development projects or local content initiatives.
Competencies
- Technical Proficiency: Basic knowledge of engineering principles and design software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MS Project, or equivalent).
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in Tok Pisin is highly advantageous for site-based communication.
- Problem Solving: Analytical mindset with the ability to identify problems and propose practical solutions.
- Adaptability: Willingness to work in remote locations and challenging environments typical of PNG operations (e.g., fly-in-fly-out rosters if applicable).
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment.
Working Conditions
- Site Rotations: May require rotation between the head office and remote operational sites (e.g., Highlands, Coastal plants).
- Field Work: Physical ability to conduct site walk-downs and inspections in tropical weather conditions.
- Travel: Willingness to travel domestically via air or road transport to project sites.
