We are seeking a senior credit risk executive to lead enterprise-wide credit strategy, portfolio quality, and risk governance within a leading financial institution.
This role is accountable for disciplined credit decisioning, strong asset quality, and sustainable lending growth, working closely with executive leadership to shape credit direction and risk outcomes.
The ideal candidate brings extensive credit risk and banking leadership experience, strong analytical capability, sound judgement, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders and embed a strong risk culture across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities - Lead credit strategy, policy, and risk governance across the lending portfolio
- Approve and oversee credit decisioning for key exposures in line with risk appetite and regulatory standards
- Maintain portfolio quality through proactive risk identification and management of stressed exposures
- Provide independent credit oversight and challenge across institutional and commercial lending
- Conduct portfolio and sector analysis to assess economic, market, and regulatory risks
- Partner with business and risk teams to structure appropriate lending solutions
- Improve credit frameworks, processes, and risk management practices
- Develop and coach credit teams to strengthen capability and risk culture
- Engage senior stakeholders on portfolio performance, risk trends, and credit strategy
- Contribute to credit policy, governance, and lending growth initiatives
Ideal Candidate - Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Banking, Risk Management, or related field (MBA preferred)
- 10–15 years’ credit risk experience in banking or development finance, including senior leadership roles
- Strong understanding of Papua New Guinea’s financial sector and development finance landscape
- Extensive experience in regulated financial institutions and large credit portfolios
- Strong capability in credit analysis, risk assessment, and structured lending
- Proven leadership in building teams and driving risk culture
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and risk appetite management
- Experience managing impaired or high-risk exposures
- Strong stakeholder influence, judgement, and analytical capability
