We are seeking to recruit an experienced People Principal for our People Department. Reporting to the Manager - Human Resources, Training, Camp & Travel. The successful applicant will be responsible to oversee day-to-day HR operations, providing leadership to the site-based HR team. You will ensure compliance with policies and procedures, manage employee relations, and support recruitment and retention efforts while partnering with operational leaders to achieve aligned people outcomes with business needs. This role will also provide essential backup support for Training & Development and Camps & Travel functions.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
- HR Operations and Business Partnering:
- Provide advice and determinations based on business policy and standards and oversee the operational business partnering team.
- Ensure accurate and timely HR transactional support across all HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, and services.
- Employee Relations:
- Manage employee relations and engagement while advising supervisors and managers on HR policy interpretation and procedural matters.
- Lead the Employee representative forum process (with oversight from management).
- Ensure grievances are actioned within a timely and consistent manner.
- Recruitment and Onboarding Oversight:
- Oversee recruitment initiatives for Papua New Guinea citizen vacancies, promoting local employment and workforce diversity.
- Ensure employee recruitment targets are met in a timely manner, and within budget.
- Oversee the mobilisation of short-term labour for shutdown and Project works.
- Manage and coordinate, via the team, an organised onboarding process for new employees.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor the site-based HR team, fostering professional development and enhancing team performance.
- Departmental Support and Coverage:
- Training & Development – Provide backup leadership support for Training & Development activities, including scheduling, reporting, and compliance tracking.
- Camps & Travel Coordination – Assist in coordinating Camps & Travel during peak periods or staff absences, ensuring continuity of service and operational efficiency.
- Audit Support – Support HR audit processes and reporting requirements to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
- Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to internal policies and external employment legislation, maintaining organizational standards and practices.
Qualifications and Experience:
- 10 years’ experience in Human Resources management, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
- 5 years’ experience in managing large multi-functional teams.
- Experience in an international environment.
- Contract management exposure (an advantage).
- Strong knowledge of industry best practice HR policies, procedures, and employment legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated experience in interacting at senior levels of an organisation.
- Effective communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
The above role is Hidden Valley Mine Site based.
