The opportunity
Our client is a prominent leader within the Papua New Guinea commercial landscape, boasting a diverse portfolio that spans property development, logistics, and major infrastructure. The role
The Lawyer role is pivotal to this mission. Reporting to the Group Legal Counsel, you will provide expert legal assistance across a wide spectrum of matters, ranging from complex property law and land conveyancing to company law and IPA compliance. This role requires extensive collaboration with internal teams to align legal strategies with organizational objectives, particularly in the areas of project development, dispute resolution, and commercial negotiations. This is a perfect opportunity if you are a proactive, professional, and solutions-oriented lawyer with a strong background in private practice or in-house legal environments. You will leverage your expertise in a fast-paced setting to manage legal risks, draft essential templates, and represent the organization in various court jurisdictions.

Main duties include:
  • Provide clear, practical legal advice on claims and disputes relating to debt recovery, breach of contract, and employment law.
  • Draft and negotiate a wide range of construction contracts, supply agreements, and property development documents.
  • Navigate intricate regulatory frameworks, ensuring full compliance with the Companies Act, IPA, and listing requirements for POMSOX/ASX.
  • Manage land conveyancing transactions from initial contract preparation through to post-completion notifications.
  • Represent the company in District, National, and Supreme Courts for litigation and employment-related matters.
  • Collaborate closely with external counsel and the Group Legal Counsel to provide guidance on special PPP-Projects and development teams.
Qualification and Experience:
  • Education: Holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from UPNG or an equivalent institution.
  • Professional Certification: Must hold a valid Restricted Practising Certificate.
  • Experience: Post Qualification Experience relevant to a mid-level role, preferably within a reputable local/international law firm or a comparable in-house team.
  • Technical Skills: Proven ability to draft court proceedings, refine legal templates, and manage intellectual property registrations.
  • Core Competencies: Possesses exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills with a high proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Requirements: A collaborative team player with a current driver's license and a willingness to commit to ongoing professional development
