ABOUT BALIMO COLLEGE:

Balimo College is Western Province’s newest Higher Education Institute. In 2025, Balimo College opened the new School of Nursing and commenced a 4-year Bachelor of General Nursing program. The College’s vision is to advance Western Province by providing high-quality education, research and community engagement. The institute will foster pathways for teachers and nurses who are committed to improving access to vital services in Western Province.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Balimo College School of Nursing Lecturer is responsible for supporting the Principal of the College to uphold the College’s Vision, Mission, Core Values, Educational Philosophy and Goals. The Lecturer will operate within the Balimo College School of Nursing leadership structure as determined by the Principal, Balimo School of Nursing to disseminate strong, effective educational leadership, and manage all information technology within the parameters identified in this position description.

The Lecturer will have an in-depth knowledge of the ethos and purpose of the Balimo College School of Nursing and the principles by which it operates. The Lecturer will have a firm understanding of the Western Province health context and the objectives of Balimo College School of Nursing to create pathways for rural communities into the field of nursing.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Applicants must demonstrate that they are able to meet the following Key Selection Criteria:

  • Master’s Level Health qualification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Education qualification is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of a range of educational theories, techniques, and methodologies of personnel and management and a strong interest in current educational and technological trends.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Be willing to relocate to Balimo College campus.

  • PNG Nursing Council Standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Lecturer is responsible for:

  • Supporting the Principal in establishing and upholding a management vision for the Balimo College School of Nursing.
  • Exercising discernment and care in assisting the Principal and teaching team with supporting staff students, and parents.
  • Supporting the development and empowerment of the teaching staff that will cultivate and strengthen a positive teaching, learning, and working environment for all staff and students at every level of operations.
  • Supporting the Principal with operational logistics for Balimo College School of Nursing and ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the College.

  • Uphold and lead others to the realisation of the Mission, Vision, Values, Educational Philosophy and Goals of the Balimo College School of Nursing in all operations.

Administration

  • Be familiar with College administration procedures and effect efficient practices in liaison with the administration staff.
  • Support the Principal with sourcing quotes and receiving payment receipts in a timely manner for the smooth running of the college.
  • Attend all Professional Development meetings, attend termly staff meetings and record details if required by the principal for wider circulation to staff.
  • Be familiar with the Balimo College School of Nursing calendar and attend all calendared meetings and lectures in a timely manner.
  • Ensure personal full compliance of the College rules and behavioural expectations for yourself and your students.
  • Delivery of the curriculum.
  • Monitor and record student’s information clearly, coherently and confidentially for the identification and conducting of learner assessments.
  • Alert the Principal to any maintenance requirements or any issues of Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Procedures on site.

Teaching & Learning

  • Actively and pro-actively enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
  • Analyse and evaluate available data on student performance and take appropriate action to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Promote the use of ICT and of developments in Digital Learning Technologies and actively support the students to enable their studies with the support of ICT
  • Support the Principal with the delivery and moderation of assessment and reporting across whole staff cohort.
  • Support the Principal with the delivery and management of the practicum component of the curriculum.
  • Manage a personal teaching load within specialism.

Student Enrolment and Welfare

  • Support the Principal with the interview process of prospective students and their families (where appropriate) for enrolment suitability according to the Balimo College School of Nursing Enrolment Policy.
  • Support the Principal (where appropriate) with the decision making around the chosen candidates for offer of placements at the College according to the Balimo College School of Nursing Enrolment Policy.
  • Liaise with parents/families regarding enrolment of students with special needs and ongoing well-being of the students.

Professional Development

  • Regularly attend Professional Development Training to keep abreast of current trends in nursing education;
  • Attend and be actively engaged in appropriate Professional Development and facilitate staff attendance at professional development activities;
  • Keep up to date with current educational thought and practice;
  • Support the Principal to implement the Balimo College School of Nursing Professional Learning and Development Policy where it aligns to your specialism.

Financial Management

  • Support the Principal in providing input to the budget of the School of Nursing.
