About the Role

PNGUNRE invites applications from suitably qualified and highly motivated academics for appointment as Lecturer – Renewable Energy & Environmental Engineering within the Department of Renewable Energy & Environmental Engineering, School of Environment and Climate Change (SECC).

The position is based at the Vudal Campus, East New Britain Province, and contributes to the University’s core academic functions of teaching and learning, research and scholarship, professional practice, and community engagement. The successful appointee will deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses, contribute to curriculum development, undertake applied research, and support industry and community linkages in renewable energy and environmental engineering.

The appointee will report to the Head of Department, under the overall direction of the Dean, School of Environment and Climate Change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, tutorials, laboratories, and other learning activities in Renewable Energy and Environmental Engineering, with emphasis on electrical engineering applications.
  • Coordinate and teach undergraduate and/or postgraduate units, including assessment, marking, student consultation, and development of course materials.
  • Supervise undergraduate projects and contribute to honours and higher degree supervision, where appropriate.
  • Conduct high-quality applied and scholarly research in renewable energy and environmental engineering, including publication in recognised academic outlets.
  • Contribute to research grant applications, industry-linked research, and collaborative projects aligned with university research priorities.
  • Participate in curriculum development, review, and internal and external accreditation processes.
  • Engage in professional and industry activities, including consultancy, short courses, workshops, and seminars.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with industry, professional bodies, government agencies, and community stakeholders.
  • Participate in departmental, school, and University meetings, committees, and academic governance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with university academic standards, quality assurance processes, and policies.
  • Perform other academic and administrative duties as reasonably directed by the Head of Department or Dean.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Postgraduate qualification in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field from a recognised university.
  • A master’s degree (MA, MPhil or MSc) is required; a PhD in a relevant discipline is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated disciplinary expertise in electrical engineering applications for renewable energy, including areas such as power systems, renewable energy systems, and electrical machines.
  • Evidence of research activity and scholarly output appropriate to career stage, particularly in renewable energy or environmental engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at tertiary level and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Experience with relevant engineering software such as MATLAB, AutoCAD, or similar tools.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and industry partners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary academic and research teams.
  • Understanding of university academic standards, quality assurance processes, and accreditation requirements.
  • Experience in industry engagement, professional practice, or applied consultancy will be an advantage.

K56,165.00 – K68,647.00
