The Role

Reporting to the General Counsel, this senior legal role plays a key part in driving strategic legal initiatives and safeguarding the Bank’s commercial and regulatory interests. You will lead the review and negotiation of complex agreements, provide high-level legal and regulatory advice, manage legal risk, and oversee due diligence. This position is critical in strengthening legal governance, ensuring compliance, and supporting operational transparency and integrity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including loans, vendor contracts, and service-level agreements. Ensuring clarity, legal accuracy, and full compliance with internal policies and legal standards.
  • Provides timely and practical legal advice on contractual rights, obligations, and risks to support informed decision-making across the organisation.
  • Ensures legal compliance by identifying risks, conducting thorough research, and developing proactive strategies that strengthen governance and protect organisational interests.
  • Conducts legal due diligence on counterparties and supports the full transaction lifecycle, from negotiation through to execution and post-closing matters.
  • Maintains accurate and organised legal documentation and supports the development and improvement of contract templates and management tools for greater efficiency and consistency.

What We’re Looking For
  • Degree in Law and a current Practising Certificate minimum 10 years of experience in commercial law, ideally within a law firm, corporate legal team, or financial institution.
  • Well-versed in regulatory compliance and governance, with sound knowledge of banking laws, financial regulations, and industry standards relevant to commercial transactions.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of delivering practical legal solutions and managing legal risks in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to strategic outcomes.
