Job Vacancy: Loan Recovery Officer


Role Purpose

The Loan Recovery Officer is responsible for monitoring the delinquent loan portfolio and initiating proactive recovery actions to ensure outstanding debts are collected timely, minimizing financial loss to the institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Monitoring: Regularly review non-performing loan accounts to identify arrears and ensure they remain within agreed thresholds.
  • Debt Collection: Contact delinquent members via telephone, letters of demand, and field visits to negotiate amicable repayment arrangements.
  • Strategic Recovery: Develop case-by-case workout plans and repayment strategies for complex default cases.
  • Legal Liaison: Coordinate with the legal department to initiate court proceedings or repossessions as a last resort.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain constant dialogue with payroll departments and external recovery agents to secure timely remittances.
  • Reporting: Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on recovery progress, loan classifications, and write-off trends for management.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Tertiary qualification (Diploma or Degree) in Banking & Finance, Accounting, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum [2–5] years of proven experience in debt recovery or credit risk management within the banking and finance industry.
  • Skills:
    • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and banking software packages.
    • Excellent analytical skills and business judgment.
    • A valid Class 3 or Class 6 driver’s license is often preferred for field visits.

  • Ability to work under pressure and achieve strict collection targets.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
