Logistics Supervisor
Position Summary
The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the services in P.N.G to support the flow of materials for client projects on an end-to-end basis.
Position Responsibilities
The Logistics Supervisor is responsible and accountable for overseeing and coordinating all logistics operations to ensure the efficient and compliant movement of goods to and from project sites. This includes managing team performance, ensuring adherence to company procedures, and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Supervise and coordinate the logistics team to ensure the efficient flow of goods from various origins to project sites, in line with delivery SOPs, including freight booking, document control, packing, storage, and quarantine compliance.
- Oversee and confirm the arrival of goods at ports of import/export within PNG, ensuring clearance procedures are managed effectively in coordination with customs agents and service providers.
- Monitor and review customs processes to ensure timely release of cargo, taking proactive measures to prevent delays, port storage, or detention costs.
- Identify and implement improvements to streamline logistics operations and reduce cycle times between cargo arrival, customs clearance, and final delivery.
- Maintain oversight of the release and movement of goods from wharf to site or warehouse, ensuring timely, accurate, and transparent status updates.
- Supervise inspection activities, including visual checks and line-item verification to confirm cargo accuracy against packing lists and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with domestic and international transport requirements, coordinating repacking, fumigation, or certification activities with relevant service providers as needed.
- Coordinate and oversee import and export clearances, working closely with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal stakeholders to ensure documentation accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain and review shipment tracking reports, ensuring accurate and up-to-date visibility of cargo movement and performance metrics.
- Ensure data integrity through accurate and timely entry of logistics information into internal systems, and review entries completed by the logistics team.
- Oversee job file management, verifying the completeness and accuracy of records for invoicing, accruals, and third-party billing.
- Support and guide the Logistics team, providing leadership, mentoring, and performance feedback to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality service.
- Maintain professional communication with internal teams, clients, and service providers, proactively addressing and resolving operational or compliance issues.
- Report to the Logistics Lead, providing regular operational updates, data insights, and recommendations for process improvement.
Selection Criteria – Essential
- Strong planning, organizing, and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
Selection Criteria – Desirable
- +5 years operational experience in freight forwarding and customs clearance.
- Familiarity with logistics systems.
- Experience working with shipping or freight forwarding companies.
- Financial understanding of logistics cost drivers and structure.
Qualifications / Licences
- Minimum Year 12 Accreditation
- Current unrestricted drivers licence – Manual preferred
