Islands Petroleum is an independently owned fuel and lubes distributor, and the exclusive distributor for Mobil lubricants in Papua New Guinea. With the head office based in Kokopo, Islands Petroleum also operates bulk fuel depots in Rabaul, Kimbe, Konebada, Kavieng, Alotau, Popondetta/ Orobay and Mt. Hagen as well as lubes and fuel distribution warehouses in Lae, Port Moresby, and Madang.

We are currently seeking to fill the position of Mechanic at our Madang Depot, Madang Province. Reporting to the Depot Manager, this position is critical for planning and carrying out Preventative Planned Maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs of all company fleets ranging from Small Engines, Light Motor Vehicles, Forklifts, Trucks and Road Tankers.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure all Light Vehicles, Road Tankers, Forklifts are always fully functional, by carrying out all routine checks, tests and service at the appropriate intervals, and taking necessary remedial action to rectify any issues detected
• Ability to read and interpret parts and service manuals, facilitate requisitions and parts orders
• Reporting of Sub-standards from Inspections to the workshop supervisors then gets repairs done on a timely manner
• All Repair & Maintenance must be done according to schedules
• Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental culture and comply with Company policies and procedures
• Provide Quality Service without compromising safety standards on a timely manner and provide feedback in an efficient manner
• Responsible for the management of all company assets and ensuring that the assets are maintained at operational standards
• Ensure Workshop is kept in a neat and tidy state

Key Requirements

• A recognized Trade Certificate in Heavy Equipment Fitting or Automotive Mechanic
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in working on Small Engines, Light Vehicles, Trucks, Road Tankers
• Proven experience in component overhauling
• Provide consistent reporting – daily, weekly, and monthly basis
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and see tasks through to completion
• Enthusiasm to train and mentor Tradesmen, Trade Assistants, and unskilled employees
• Good command of oral and written communications skills
• Hold a current PNG Driver’s license preferably Class 6
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with well-developed time management skills, an ability toprioritize the work.
• Excellent communication skills
• Team Player and neat and tidy appearance
• Madang based candidates will be given first preference
