Where you come in:
In this full-time maximum term position based in Port Moresby, you be responsible for the implementation of all MEAL activities in the relevant provinces, and for working closely with relevant counterparts in the Provincial Health Authority (PHA) to build capacity for monitoring systems, data collection and management, reporting, accountability, and learning. The MEAL Officer reports directly to Save the Children’s National MEAL Manager, with a functional accountability to the SC Field Manager or, designated province, the AIHSS Provincial Coordinator. The MEAL Officer role is designed to monitor and conduct quality checks and manage feedback mechanisms, alongside the PHA MEL team.

You will make an impact by:

  • Adhere to all Save the Children policies and procedures, in particular the Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Policies. Help strengthen safe programming delivery.
  • Act as a role model by demonstrate the highest standards of behaviour towards children, beneficiaries and government counterparts at all levels.
  • Be aware of, and consider, the security and other risks associated with everyday work and apply appropriate mitigation measures; develop a positive and strong relationship with people and communities where Save the Children works.

Does this sound like you?
You have a blend of analytical, technical, and interpersonal skills. You should possess strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, expertise in data collection, analysis, and reporting, and proficiency in M&E software and methodologies. Additionally, your excellent communication, facilitation, and project management skills, along with a strong understanding of ethical considerations and accountability practices.

This role requires:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience within the development sector in a similar MEAL role.
  • Experience and knowledge of monitoring systems, including robust and responsible data collection and use.
  • Experience and knowledge of systems for accountability to children and communities, including information sharing, participation of adults and children, and feedback and reporting mechanisms.
  • Experience in developing MEAL capacity at national, provincial and local level (preferably in health sector), and health facility levels.
  • Proficiency in relevant data collection and analysis software (KoBo, MS Excel and other digital and mobile data collection tools)
  • Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Able to write clearly with high level of written and spoken English.
  • Good communication skills both in English and Tok-Pisin.
