Job Description

About the role

We are seeking motivated and community-oriented Officers – Community Development to support the field delivery of economic, livelihood, and business programs across NPL’s mine-affected communities. Working closely with Community Development Committees (CDCs) and under the supervision of the Senior Advisor, these officers play a critical role in maintaining community trust and ensuring program execution aligns with the Community Development Plan.

In this role, you will.

  • Engage with communities and CDCs to understand development needs and priorities.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and delivery of economic and livelihood initiatives in the field.
  • Assist in drafting proposals and concept notes for program approval by the Social Performance Committee.
  • Facilitate local participation and ensure community input is reflected in program delivery.
  • Maintain strong relationships with community members and support sustained engagement.
  • Help deliver "quick win" initiatives and contribute to larger program outcomes across sectors.
  • Collect field data and provide feedback on program performance.
  • Report early warning signs, emerging risks, or operational concerns to the Senior Advisor.
  • Support alignment of programs with the outputs of CDC meetings and the Community Development Plan.
  • Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies & Procedures

The position requires a high energy individual, hands-on management style and desire to continuously improve you and your team’s knowledge and systems and methods of work.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree or diploma in Community Development, Health, Education, Nursing, Business, Agriculture, or a related field.
  • At least 2–3 years’ experience supporting community-based development programs.
  • Field experiences working in rural communities.
  • Ability to build relationships and work respectfully across diverse cultural settings.
  • Strong reporting and computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of Ipili or Engan highly regarded

Mobilization Requirement

This is a PNG National Staff position, a site-based role on a Fly in Fly out arrangement with rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off. Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening. (This will be arranged only for successful candidates who progress after the interview stage) and have an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
