The opportunity
This opportunity is with a leading logistics provider in Papua New Guinea, formed to deliver high-quality, end-to-end logistics solutions.

This is a perfect opportunity if you're an experienced, operationally savvy professional with a minimum of 10+ years' experience in freight forwarding or logistics, looking to leverage your expertise in PNG Customs and NAQIA processes to drive operational excellence. You will lead the operations team in Lae across landside cargo management, vendor relations, and financial control, while championing a culture of Zero Harm and delivering a best-in-class customer experience.

The Role

Drive the organisation's success by leading the operations team across all aspects of day-to-day cargo management and ensuring a best-in-class customer experience. You will also ensure the safety culture of Zero Harm is incorporated and minimise revenue leakage through effective financial operations. This pivotal role involves collaborating with customs teams, vendors, and partners, and utilising continuous improvement to enhance operational performance and provide accurate financial and operational reporting to management.

Main duties include:
  • Manage and guide the operations team, focusing on performance management, development, goal setting, and maintaining effective employee work schedules.
  • Oversee all aspects of cargo operations in PNG, including trucking, warehousing, and customs/quarantine clearance, ensuring timely processing and accurate data recording to avoid unbudgeted costs.
  • Act as the primary point of escalation for troubleshooting and the main contact for key contract logistics and project customers, ensuring a best-in-class customer experience.
  • Manage all financial administration, ensuring accurate invoicing, correct allocation of revenues/costs, and driving cost efficiencies to minimise revenue leakage.
  • Facilitate relationships with vendors and partners, including contract negotiation, setting standards, and ensuring vendors meet agreed KPIs and safety standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement, ensure adherence to company policies, provide timely reporting to management, and incorporate the Zero Harm safety culture into all daily operations.


Qualification and Experience:
  • A minimum of 10+ years' experience in freight forwarding, shipping, logistics, or supply chain operations.
  • Tertiary qualification, at minimum a degree level in a related transport or logistics discipline.
  • Sound understanding and demonstrable experience with freight forwarding processes in Papua New Guinea, particularly involving PNG Customs and NAQIA authorities.
  • Experience with the Cargowise operating platform is required.
  • Proven experience managing a team in a similar environment, along with a pragmatic, approachable, and people-oriented leadership style.
