About the role

Joining our maintenance team on site, the Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of mobile or overhead cranes to lift, move, and position loads in accordance with lift plans, site procedures, and regulatory requirements. In this role ensures all lifting activities are conducted safely and collaboratively with rigging and ground crews, whilst observing and adhering to the workplace health & safety policies.

Key Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

  • Ensuring that the sections daily work plans are executed as directed.
  • This position reports to the Supervisor FPM team accountable for providing effective operation of crane owned by K92 Mining.
  • Maintain good working relationship with colleague workers.
  • Responsible for housekeeping.
  • Operate cranes to lift and place materials safely and accurately.
  • Conduct pre-start inspections and report defects immediately.
  • Follow lift plans, load charts, and supervisor directions.
  • Work closely with riggers during lifts.
  • Establish and maintain safe exclusion zones when lifting.
  • Monitor load stability, weather conditions, and ground conditions.
  • Stop work when conditions become unsafe and notify supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate logbooks and equipment records.
  • Assist in crane setup, assembly, and dismantling as required.
  • Participate in JSAs/SOP’s, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
  • Shift work, overtime, and shutdowns may be required
  • Outdoor, site-based environments.
  • Exposure to weather, noise, and heavy machinery.

About You

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you have all or some of the following

  • Experience in mining, heavy industry, or major infrastructure projects.
  • Minimum Grade eight (8) educational qualification, but preferable a Grade ten (10) certificate or PETT courses.
  • Valid PNG Class 7 driver’s licence
  • Working at Heights certification.
  • Proven crane operating experience.
  • Dogging or Rigging licence
  • A minimum number of years’ crane experience (e.g., 2–5 years) a prerequisite.
  • Ability to read and write both Pidgin and English
  • Strong understanding of crane operations and lifting principles.
  • Ability to interpret load charts and lifting diagrams.
  • Excellent situational awareness and hazard recognition.
  • Effective communication and teamwork.
  • Problem-solving during complex or changing lift conditions.
  • High attention to safety and detail.
  • Must have at least 5 or more years of truck driving.
  • Must be able to understand the company’s targets and work towards achieving the targets.
  • Have a strong understanding of the mining cycle.
  • Flexible, adaptable and be a strong and proactive team player.
  • Ability to meet agreed schedules and deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with other team members and K92 Mining Ltd employees.
