About the role

Joining our Environmental Team, the potable water treatment plant operator is responsible for the safe treatment, monitoring, and maintenance of potable water systems to ensure water supplied to site personnel meets health, safety, and environmental compliance requirements. The role focuses on chlorine dosing, water tank maintenance, accurate record keeping, and routine inspections in accordance with K92’s site procedures and regulatory standards.

Key Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

  • Carry out chlorine dosing of potable water systems in accordance with approved procedures and dosing schedules.
  • Measure and adjust chlorine residual levels to maintain potable water quality standards.
  • Safely handle, store, and use chlorine and related water treatment chemicals.
  • Routine checks on filters and report issues to Environment officers or Site Services.
  • Adjust chemical dosing rates to maintain water quality parameters.
  • Maintain daily potable water dosing records, including chlorine concentrations, volumes treated, dates, and locations.
  • Complete water treatment logbooks, checklists, and inspection forms accurately and on time.
  • Report abnormal results, equipment faults, or potential contamination risks immediately to supervisors.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain potable water tanks, including lids, vents, overflows, and inlet/outlet pipes.
  • Ensure tanks are secure, hygienic, and free from contamination risks.
  • Assist with flushing, draining, and refilling of water tanks as required.
  • Follow site HSE procedures, including PPE use and chemical handling requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with potable water guidelines, permit conditions, and environmental standards.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and environmental awareness programs.
  • Assist Environmental Officers with water sampling (if required).
  • Support audits, inspections, and site monitoring activities related to water management.
  • Perform general environmental field duties as directed.

About You

Candidates should be have a minimum Grade 10 as well the following skills and experience

  • Experience working in field-based or operational roles (environmental, utilities, camp services, or similar).
  • Basic understanding of water hygiene and chemical handling.
  • Previous experience in potable water treatment or chlorine dosing.
  • First Aid and Chemical Handling training.
  • Experience working on a mine site or remote location
  • Ability to follow procedures and dosing instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
  • Physically fit and able to work in field conditions.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • The ability to work well in a team environment with a strong focus on performance and deliverables.
