Position Description
- Position Title: Parts Interpreter
- Company: Spectra Industrial
- Location: Lae, Papua New Guinea
- Reports To: National Parts and Inventory Manager
Position Purpose
The Parts Interpreter is responsible for accurately identifying, sourcing, and supplying parts for forklifts, heavy equipment, and related machinery to support workshop operations. This role ensures the efficient flow of parts and inventory to minimize downtime and support smooth maintenance and repair activities at the Lae workshop.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret parts catalogues, service manuals, and technical documentation to identify correct parts for machinery and equipment.
- Provide accurate and timely parts support to the workshop, service teams, and customers.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of forklifts, heavy equipment, and associated components.
- Enter, update, track parts and inventory data using computer-based systems.
- Liaise with suppliers, the workshop team, and the National Parts and Inventory Manager to ensure timely procurement and supply of required parts.
- Prepare and process parts orders, invoices, and requisitions in line with company procedures.
- Conduct stock checks, monitor inventory levels, and support warehouse control activities.
- Provide technical advice and parts solutions to workshop staff, ensuring parts compatibility and accuracy.
- Assist in the continuous improvement of parts and inventory systems to maximize efficiency.
Key Competencies & Skills
- Strong ability to read and interpret parts catalogues and service manuals.
- Computer literate with knowledge of inventory and parts management systems.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to accuracy and detail.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills to effectively support workshop staff and suppliers.
- Mechanical knowledge and technical understanding of forklifts and heavy equipment.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced workshop environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within the heavy equipment or automotive industry.
- Sound knowledge of mechanical components, particularly forklifts and heavy machinery.
- Proven experience in interpreting technical manuals and catalogues.
- Formal training or certification in mechanics, automotive parts interpretation, or related discipline is desirable.
Workplace Relationships
- Internal: Workshop teams, Service Technicians, Workshop & Engineering Manager, Administration staff.
- External: Suppliers, manufacturers, and customers as required.
Performance Indicators
- Accuracy of parts identification and supply.
- Timeliness in sourcing and providing parts to support workshop operations.
- Effective communication and collaboration with the workshop and management.
- Inventory accuracy and control.
- Contribution to reducing downtime through efficient parts support.
