Payroll Officer

Chemcare Group Limited is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join our Head Office Payroll team in Lae. Reporting to the Group Payroll Supervisor, this role is responsible for ensuring payroll is processed accurately, confidentially and on time in line with company policy and relevant employment and taxation requirements.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Accurately input and process payroll information.
  • Calculate and verify salaries, wages and applicable tax.
  • Verify and process staff deductions against company advances.
  • Ensure timely processing of leave requests and correct superannuation contributions.
  • Process correct net pay and dispatch payslips in a timely manner.
  • Calculate and process severance pay correctly when required.
  • Set up new recruits with correct payroll information.
  • Investigate and resolve payroll queries relating to hours, leave, superannuation and tax.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and prepare employee earnings, leave, deductions and tax reports.
  • Provide assistance to branch payroll clerks and perform other payroll duties as required.

This role is ideal for someone who is accurate, trustworthy and highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure and meet strict payroll deadlines.

Skills / Qualification / Experience:

  • Diploma in Accounting, Human Resource or Business Administration.
  • Minimum 3 years' payroll experience.
  • Good understanding of the Salary or Wages Tax (Rates) Act and Employment Act.
  • Basic understanding of the Superannuation Act.
  • Good understanding of payroll software; Pronto experience is preferred.
  • Good computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail, numerical and organisational skills, with good understanding of accounting.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet very deadline-oriented payroll requirements.
